HDR-Designed Medical Center Highly Commended in 2022 European Healthcare Design Awards
The Zhejiang University School of Medicine First Affiliated Hospital and Medical Research Center was highly commended in the Healthcare Design Over 25,000 square meters category of the 2022 European Healthcare Design Awards.
Shortlisted in April, a multidisciplinary team from HDR presented the hospital design to judges in a live webinar to determine prizes in the hotly contested competition, ultimately resulting in a highly commended accolade for the translational medical campus.
“It is a great honor for our work to be recognized in the European Healthcare Design Awards,” said Sangmin Lee, HDR regional director of health for China. “The translational design of the campus increases efficiencies and creates flows that enhance collaboration, improves the patient experience, and allows the entire medical center to operate as one organism, rather than separate departments in isolation.”
At Zhejiang University School of Medicine First Affiliated Hospital and Medical Research Center, emphasis is placed upon integrated translational collaboration, patient experience, and flexible shared infrastructures. Large, interlocking blocks of departments are connected by a central spine to make circulation simple and direct.
