HDR Provides Glimmers of HOPE at 2022 DIFFA Gala
The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS’s biggest fundraising event of the year is being held March 24-26, 2022, at 415 Center, New York. HDR is proud to not only be a gold sponsor of the event, but also leading the design and creation of one of the exhibits that will serve to engage attendees with the organization’s mission.
DIFFA BY DESIGN promises to be an immersive experience to raise funds to help combat AIDS, homelessness, food scarcity, and mental health issues across the country. The three-day fundraiser will offer live performances and special guests, panel discussions and a dance party.
Attendees can also immerse themselves in colorful and vibrant designer installations throughout the 30,000-square-foot space. HDR’s vignette, titled “HOPE IS,” celebrates the many ways people have learned to support one another so that feelings of being alone in adversity are not as isolating. The exhibit will explore how each of us defines “hope” differently by asking visitors to write on small discs what hope means to them. Together, these discs will be used to create a parabolic graphic that illustrates the rise and decline of HIV/AIDS around the globe over the last four decades, thus collectively becoming a graphic representation of “hope.”
“In the fight against HIV/AIDS, we find ourselves at the fulcrum of eradicating a disease that has touched all facets of life,” said Brooke Horan, IIDA, ASID, WELL AP, LEED AP, EDAC, HDR interior design director. “And though this is cause for celebration, we find ourselves tested again with the emergence of COVID-19. While many of us have found ways to overcome our adversities, others are still struggling to cope. We look for ways to support one another and we press on, with a glimmer of hope, each one of us with our own specific understanding of what that means.”
HDR’s installation partners include Giles Miller Studio, Waldner’s, OFS, Buck Agency, Shimmer Screen and ATCHAIN.
