Greg Hadsell has been named HDR’s education and science director for the U.S. West Region.

HDR, consistently ranked No. 1 in Science + Tech by Building Design & Construction, currently has active education and science practices in the West with offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Phoenix. In this role, Hadsell will connect HDR with clients across this diverse part of the country while building a cohesive education and science team. He will work in collaboration with global and regional education and science leadership to formulate and implement marketing initiatives.

"Greg is a great addition to our education and science leadership team, bringing a deep understanding of our clients' priorities," said HDR Global Director of Education, Science & Community Eric Jaffe. "We look forward to him building on the great work our collaborative west coast studios are delivering throughout the region."

A practicing architect, Hadsell has led many projects focused on scientific discovery with an emphasis on incorporating sustainable design, creating collaborative multidisciplinary spaces for learning and research, and building highly technical environments for some of the most advanced scientific instruments in the world.

“More and more of our clients are thinking regionally, nationally and globally. This aligns well with HDR’s ability to leverage global experts while still focusing on local relationships — to understand how both global trends and local and regional context inform design solutions,” Hadsell said. “I am looking forward to working alongside our clients and teams throughout the West Region to strategize and consider how we can be better together.”

Hadsell has spent the last 15 years of his career at HDR. He was hired as a senior designer and most recently was education and science principal in San Francisco, where he is based. Passionate about sustainable design, he helped HDR become a founding member of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories Northern California Chapter and presented at a recent I2SL National Conference.
