Ashley Geesman, project engineer based in HDR’s Ames, Iowa, office, and Katie Greenstein, water quality specialist and project engineer based in HDR’s Cedar Rapids, Iowa office, have been named to the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists’ Top 40 Under 40 list. The Top 40 Under 40 recognition program highlights talented individuals who, over the past year, have made significant contributions to the advancement of environmental science or environmental engineering. Winners are selected by a panel of past recipients who value both business achievements and civic/philanthropic endeavors.

To promote increased collaboration and foster partnerships within her regional professional community, Geesman developed a mentoring program for the Iowa Section of the American Water Works Association that pairs new members and first-time conference attendees with established leaders in the Iowa water industry.

Before joining HDR, Greenstein was a senior engineer and supervisor of Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. She also worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Southern Nevada Water Authority, studying biofiltration and cyanotoxins, and served as a chemist at Des Moines Water Works.

“Ashley and Katie are both talented professionals and enthusiastic ambassadors for the water industry, ” said Teresa Konda, HDR’s water treatment lead for Nebraska and Iowa. "They have earned great respect throughout Iowa and the region through their willingness to connect with people and share their technical skills and passion about drinking water, wastewater, and water quality in the environment. This recognition is well deserved, and I’m excited to see what they achieve in the future.”
