HDR Promotes Andrew Thiess to Maritime Program Management Lead
Andrew Thiess, P.E., an experienced leader known for managing complex transportation projects and programs, has been appointed HDR’s maritime program management leader.
Based in Metairie, Louisiana, Thiess brings together knowledge and expertise from across HDR’s ports and maritime and program management and construction management (PM/CM) practices to deliver multifaceted maritime programs, including marine structural and coastal engineering, dredging, facility and master planning, and more.
“With our skilled professionals coordinating across areas, we team with our clients to deliver programs that are ever-growing in scope and complexity,” Thiess said. “Our maritime planning and program management/construction management expertise helps bring ports and maritime projects to fruition, transforming whole regional economies and creating lifelong benefits for local communities.”
Thiess brings more than three decades of experience leading the planning, design and delivery of complex maritime infrastructure projects across the United States and internationally. His portfolio includes major container terminals, marine fuel import and export facilities, bulk and multimodal port developments, and large-scale waterfront construction programs, where he has served as program manager, project director and owner’s representative.
He played a pivotal leadership role in the development of greenfield container terminals, including the Louisiana International Terminal and the award-winning Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal, along with overseeing port master planning, dredging, wharf construction, and marine logistics studies for projects across North and South America. Thiess is known for guiding large, multi-stakeholder maritime programs through permitting, environmental review, design and construction while advancing operational efficiency, sustainability and long-term port growth.
The maritime PM/CM practice that Thiess will lead encompasses a wide range of services, including transportation program management, engineering design, project controls, and expertise in environmental services, safety, utilities, architecture, systems design, facility planning, traffic engineering and other disciplines.
“Andrew’s depth of maritime experience and ability to lead large, complex programs make him the right choice to guide HDR’s maritime program management practice,” said HDR Transportation Program Management Director Miloš Vasiljević. “His collaborative approach and track record of delivering impactful port projects will be a tremendous benefit to our clients and the communities they serve.”
