Peter Nel Promoted to Manage HDR’s Transport Practice in Australia
Experienced business and project leader Peter Nel has been promoted to manage HDR’s growing transport practice in Australia, a key focus of the global engineering and architecture consultancy.
Nel, based in Brisbane, Queensland, will manage a practice that has grown its staff by more than a third in recent years and taken on complex highway and road projects across eastern Australia.
As transport manager for Australia, Nel will oversee the firm’s operations and finances on current transport projects. He will also work closely with local, country and global HDR leadership to deploy the firm’s multidisciplined approach and comprehensive professional services in new areas while maintaining HDR’s commitment to quality, collaboration and efficiency.
“HDR has established itself as a partner of choice with trusted relationships in the highways sector,” Nel said. “I look forward to leveraging HDR's global reach, breadth of services and culture of quality to secure new opportunities and deepen our connection with clients in the transport industry.”
Nel has worked on infrastructure across the globe, including projects in Africa, New Zealand, the Middle East and Australia, building a proven track record in project leadership and business management. In his nine years with HDR, he has contributed to some of the firm’s largest projects in Australia, including the Smithfield Bypass, Haughton River Floodplain Upgrade and Coomera Connector. His technical expertise encompasses all aspects of the planning, construction, project and design management of infrastructure developments. He also provides commercial management and alternative delivery guidance to project managers across our transportation program.
“Peter’s impressive leadership skills and project knowledge will be significant differentiators for our business in Australia,” said HDR Transportation President Tom McLaughlin. “Our practice in the country has continued to grow since we entered the transportation market there more than a decade ago, and I’m excited for what the future holds under Peter’s leadership.”
