Jonathan Chai, P.Eng.

Jonathan is our transportation planning lead for Canada. Recognized for technical excellence, he brings extensive experience in multimodal transportation planning and engineering, gained through work with clients across Canada. Based in Toronto, he works with clients from coast to coast on a broad range of transportation planning studies, bringing a passion and energy to developing transportation solutions that improve sustainability, efficiency, safety and equity.  

He leads our teams in delivering strategic regional, citywide and area-focused transportation network plans; travel demand and traffic modelling analysis; transit planning for conventional bus, light rail, subway, and heavy rail services; roadway corridor functional planning and environmental assessments; active transportation planning and micromobility strategy; complete streets design guidelines; transit-oriented development and area mobility plans; traffic operations, traffic calming, roadway safety, transportation impact studies, and parking studies; and transportation maintenance plans during construction for roadway and transit projects. 

More recently, he has also led our initiatives in zero-emission fleet transition plans, combining his transit operations and modelling expertise with our firm's multidisciplinary expertise in electric vehicle technology and charging/fuelling infrastructure, transit bus storage and maintenance facilities, power delivery, and economic life cycle cost analysis.

Jonathan’s broad experience, passion for working collaboratively with clients, and drive to develop innovative solutions to complex problems enable him to effectively guide our teams in delivering transportation planning projects across Canada and beyond.
