HDR’s Katiyar Named WEF Community Leadership Council Director for Conveyance & Watershed
Nitin Katiyar, P.E., has been appointed as the Community Leadership Council (CLC) Director for the Conveyance & Watershed Community of Practice at the Water Environment Federation (WEF). In this role, he will leverage his leadership, strategic planning, and communication expertise to help advance WEF’s vision while guiding a community of practice that encompasses the Collection Systems, Stormwater, and Watershed communities.
WEF is one of the largest and most influential not-for-profit technical and educational organizations in the water quality field. With over 30,000 members and 75 affiliated Member Associations, it provides solutions to protect public health and the environment by improving water quality worldwide. The Board of Trustees created WEF’s CLC to provide a mechanism for WEF communities to share ideas and improve communication within the association.
Katiyar is HDR’s hydraulic modeling practice lead and a licensed professional engineer with more than 20 years of industry experience. His technical expertise spans the full spectrum of water resources modeling, including combined sewer overflow/sanitary sewer overflow evaluations, urban flood risk management, watershed hydrology and hydraulics, green infrastructure, and large-scale infrastructure planning.
Katiyar has served on numerous national WEF committees that help advance industry standards and best practices. Widely recognized as a leader in water modeling, he currently serves as chair of the Resilience Focus Group and previously served as vice chair for the development of WEF’s comprehensive modeling manual, “Stormwater, Watershed, and Receiving Water Quality Modeling.”
“Nitin’s ability to bring people together around complex technical issues and drive meaningful outcomes has made him a trusted voice in the industry,” said Trent Stober, HDR’s utility management services director. “His leadership within WEF will help strengthen collaboration across the water sector and support the advancement of innovative solutions for communities across the country.”
