Montana State University's Digital Transformation

Pioneering Utility Management with Esri Solutions

Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman, Montana, wanted to transform and modernize its aging utility infrastructure management systems. Operating like a small city, MSU had historically relied on outdated tools such as CAD drawings and spreadsheets, which led to inaccuracies and data loss.

To address these challenges, MSU implemented Esri's Utility Network Solution, a GIS-based platform that allows advanced asset management, network tracing and real-time collaboration. This allowed the university to shift from a reactive to a proactive approach to managing its utilities. HDR supported MSU as the university's engineering and GIS integration partner, helping develop the vision of a modern, integrated utility management platform.

HDR's Kyle Burke was quoted in the article “Montana State University's Digital Transformation” in the August edition of Informed Infrastructure. The article highlights the partnership and innovative solutions that drove the project's success
