The Winding Path from Rail to Truck Waste Hauling

The Roanoke Valley Resource Authority’s conversion from rail to truck hauling was one rife with unexpected bumps and turns, but in the end, it reduced costs and increased revenues, benefiting RVRA and its communities.

In this article in EM, available to Air & Waste Management Association members, HDR’s Jeff Murray and Bob Rella detailed the “Long and Winding Road” and the key role HDR played in partnering with RVRA. Projects included new truck-loading accommodations, expanding transfer stations, building connecting roads and railway spurs, and modifying landfill operations.
