Experienced airport project manager Tom Richardson, P.E., recently joined HDR’s aviation team. Based in Boise, Idaho, Richardson will manage both design-phase and construction-phase services for a wide variety of aviation projects. Richardson will serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors and design teams, applying his wide-ranging experience to keep projects on schedule and budget. He will continue to build HDR’s aviation experience and reputation in Idaho and beyond.

“There is always great opportunity in aviation to look for ways to improve the experience for both passengers and operators,” Richardson said. “I look forward to helping our aviation clients adapt, thrive and grow in a changing world, while keeping the flying experience enjoyable for passengers.”

Since 2015, Richardson has been a quality assurance/quality control engineer and project/construction manager for San Francisco International Airport, where he has worked on the $140 million Runway 28R Rehabilitation Project, managed an energy management control system project used to track energy use around the airport campus and created and managed a new QA/QC process for the airport’s in-house architecture and engineering divisions.

His design, construction management and permitting expertise has been applied to seaports, dams, hydropower plants, water treatment plants and more. Richardson also has expertise in marine and underwater construction. From 2011-2014, he worked for HDR as a field contract administrator in San Francisco on a major water system improvement project providing contract change order negotiations, claims resolution and management of a team of construction field inspectors covering multiple work sites.

“Tom’s diverse expertise will be valuable as he leads our multidisciplined teams to design airside and landside projects, develop construction cost estimates, oversee quality assurance efforts and coordinate projects with regulatory agencies and clients,” said HDR Aviation Director Bill Peduzzi.
