Colleen Scholl, HDR’s enterprise risk director based in the firm’s Madison, Wisconsin, office, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

The ASME Committee of Past Presidents grants the Fellow grade of membership to certain candidates to recognize their significant engineering achievements. Scholl was recognized in the category of Leadership in the Engineering Profession. To be nominated as a Fellow, an ASME member must have at least 10 years of active practice and corporate membership. Less than 5% of members achieve the Fellow distinction.

Scholl's career spans across public, private and federal sectors. Because of these experiences and her leadership, HDR has gained industry recognition as go-to experts in several areas, including advising power utilities on how to navigate and address the Environmental Protection Agency's Effluent Limitations Guidelines. In 2022, she was named HDR’s enterprise risk director.

Scholl encourages young people to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Her tenure as president of the Society of Women Engineers in 2016 highlights her dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity. Scholl was the chair of the ASME Research and Technology Committee on Water and Steam in Thermal Systems from 2020-2022. She has been a committee member since 2006. In that time, she contributed to the development of six committee publications. She is currently vice chair of the Performance Test Code Committee for High Purity Water Treatment Systems, where she has been a member since 2008. Scholl has also advocated for meaningful advancements at HDR, serving as the executive sponsor for HDR’s women employee network group for three years.

“Her technical contributions and positive influence have inspired countless professionals to flourish," said Dave LeCureux, HDR's chief strategy officer. "We are only beginning to witness the profound impact that Colleen will have on our profession, the industries she serves and the world at large. She is a trailblazer, paving the way for the next generation of engineers, and her dedication to innovation, mentorship and our industry is unmatched.”
