HDR Recognized in 2025 Architizer Vision Awards Across 3 Categories
Architizer has honored two of HDR’s conceptual designs and a photograph in its 2025 Vision Awards, a program celebrating imaginative ideas shaping the future of the built environment.
An Editor’s Choice winner for the Future of Work, the Convergence Prototype is informed by research from Somayeh Mousazadeh’s HDR Fellowship, initiated in 2023. The proposed prototype imagines the “lab of the future” in a framework that considers the influence of rapidly advancing technologies in biological research and healthcare. The convergence prototype is designed in response to two emerging needs: facilitating cross-disciplinary collaborations and accommodating flexibility and rapid change. Developed through conversations with scientists and researchers at leading institutions, the design reflects real-world needs, builds on lessons from past visionary projects and offers a paradigm for science architecture that can respond to today’s pace of change.

A finalist in the Future of Wellness category, Bionica envisions the “hospital of the future” as patient-centered, modular, mobile and integrated with nature to promote personalized healing in peace and privacy. Originally conceived in 2022 and winner of Healthcare Design’s Breaking Through competition, this concept employs flexible, adaptable and scalable, hypothetical patient room pods to connect healthcare services to patients in robotic, mobile healing environments that reduce stress and anxiety associated with travel from home and transportation within the hospital.

Finally, a detail image of western light passing through a new pedestrian bridge spanning from the OC San Headquarters to the water treatment plant, taken by Dan Schwalm, HDR photographer, is a finalist in the Photographs > Architecture & Detail category.

As a top-ranked health and science architecture firm and the largest 100% employee-owned architecture and engineering company in the U.S., HDR has been recognized by Architizer in its 13th annual A+Awards as “Best Global Firm” this year and presented “Designing Meaningful Architecture for a New Era” for Architizer’s 2024 Future Fest.
