Peter Pappas, P.E., an industry leader with more than 30 years of experience across a wide range of markets, has joined HDR to serve as New York/New Jersey transportation manager.
Based in the firm’s Manhattan, New York, office, Pappas will provide operational leadership while also supporting business development and overall program growth. He will oversee projects in delivery and support all transportation markets in the area, including work on roadways, transit, railroads, shipping ports and airports.
“Peter’s decades of experience serving transportation clients, leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering critical infrastructure projects make him an outstanding addition to our New York and New Jersey operations,” said HDR Northeast Region Transportation Director Mike Estes. “Just as important, he is passionate about developing talented professionals and fostering strong partnerships. Those qualities will help us continue delivering lasting value for our clients and the communities they serve.”
Pappas has extensive experience in New York’s transportation and infrastructure market in both the public and private sectors. He has managed billions of dollars in construction projects and contributed to some of the region’s most iconic projects, including the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and the JFK Airport Redevelopment. Pappas also has an extensive background in railroad engineering and operations, both as a former railroad employee and as a consultant for various railroad clients.
He joins a company that has been involved in some of the area’s largest and most challenging projects in recent years, including the Cuomo Bridge, Bayonne Bridge, the Central Business District Tolling Program, Interborough Express and more.
“I’m excited to work alongside an HDR team that is committed to helping clients address some of the transportation industry’s most pressing infrastructure needs,” Pappas said. “As our systems continue to age, there is a tremendous opportunity to deliver solutions that improve mobility and reliability. I’m especially looking forward to working with HDR’s talented professionals and mentoring the next generation of engineers.”
