Sandy Tkacz, AIA, FACHA, health director, U.S. East region at HDR, has been elevated to the American College of Healthcare Architects' Council of Fellows.

She was recognized for her extraordinary dedication and contribution to the advancement of healthcare architecture and design through her research, leadership, and innovation. Her 30 years of planning and design experience encompass millions of square feet of healthcare space design in more than 20 states.

“Being recognized as a Fellow of the College is an incredible honor and personal career milestone that represents to me the impact we can make as healthcare design leaders — making a difference to improve health outcomes every day,” Tkacz said.

“Sandy’s elevation to the ACHA Council of Fellows is a reflection of her unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare design and mentoring the next generation of leaders,” said Hank Adams, AIA, FACHA, EDAC, HDR’s global director of health. “Her influence is felt not only in the spaces she helps create, but in the people she inspires every day.”

Tkacz leads HDR's Eastern U.S. region healthcare architecture practice from the Richmond, Virginia, studio, which she started in 2016. Her project experience and knowledge cover many healthcare facility types and services, from academic medical campuses and outpatient clinics to acute care inpatient and specialty care facilities. Tkacz is the first to serve as HDR’s regional health director for both the West and East regions of the U.S.

Notable Virginia projects that benefited from Tkacz’s leadership include the VCU Health Adult Outpatient Pavilion and the Sheltering Arms Institute, among many others.
