April Crockett, P.E.

U.S. Central Region Highways and Roads Lead

As our central region highways and roads lead, April directs a team of transportation professionals from 16 states, stretching from Canada to Mexico and spanning the U.S. from Indiana to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Her support helps regional teams understand the needs and challenges of clients, leading to smart and innovative solutions that advance their transportation priorities. She has a quarter century of experience managing transportation projects of various sizes and complexities and has worked on many parts of projects, including planning, engineering, environmental documentation and stakeholder engagement.

Before joining HDR, April was the director of Metro District planning, program management and transit for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Her guidance on policy development, statewide initiatives, goals and priorities helped advance some of the largest projects in the state. She was pivotal in advancing the agency’s first design-build pavement preservation project, which spanned six cities and two counties. And her leadership was crucial to implementing a health equity impact assessment during the delivery of a large, complex project. She leans into her DOT experience to help HDR clients improve mobility, safety and equity for all transportation users.

April is active in the industry, with close ties to the American Public Works Association. She was recently elected as secretary/treasurer for the Minnesota Chapter APWA for 2025, serves on APWA committees and was named APWA Transportation Manager of the Year in 2019.
