As chief executive officer, John is responsible for the leadership and strategic growth of our company and serves as vice chairman of the HDR Board of Directors.
John became CEO in 2024 after previously serving as chief operating officer and chief administrative officer.
Prior to joining HDR, John had a distinguished career in leading wide-ranging programs for the U.S. Department of Defense. He served in numerous command and staff positions throughout his career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After retiring, he was appointed to serve as the assistant secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Energy. John brings nearly three decades of broad experience in operations, engineering, military construction, infrastructure investment, water resources management and environmental programs.
John holds a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, served as a National Security Studies Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is a licensed professional engineer.
