Principal Planner

“It is a great privilege to work alongside the physicists and researchers advancing our fundamental understanding of the world. Designing spaces that enable their research has propelled fascinating conversations and incredibly rewarding work.”

Driven by a deep curiosity to understand how the built environment can support research, science and innovation, Matthew has dedicated his career to advancing physical science through design. A leader on our global lab planning team, he leverages his 20 years of experience in the design of physical science and engineering spaces to connect with clients across the globe, from cutting-edge aerospace companies to world-renowned research institutions.

A Boston native, Matthew has built his career in a city that’s long been a hub of scientific innovation, amassing a portfolio of work that spans the world, including highly complex projects at the Johns Hopkins University, Fermilab, Weizmann Institute, University of New Mexico and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While he has held planning, business development and operational roles, science has been a consistent thread, whether by establishing and expanding science-focused design practices or by bringing his lab planning expertise to a wide range of projects.

Matthew thrives on the energy of working alongside scientists who explore the fundamental principles of matter and transform them into groundbreaking materials and technologies. This passion remains his true north star, which is evident in his ongoing engagement with the scientific community, including presenting at the International Microscopy Congress, where he stood as the sole architect among the world’s foremost microscopists.
