Sheena Zimmerman

Senior Facility Design Manager

With more than a decade in operations and maintenance facilities design, Sheena’s design experience spans more than 175 maintenance facility projects for transit, municipal, aviation and private clients. From day-to-day, she assists clients with optimizing their facility design needs — from project management, facility space needs programming and master planning to functional facility design, including equipment selection, specification and layout.

As new energy sources are leveraged for agency fleets, Sheena has developed unique expertise in helping plan and design facilities with considerations for electric vehicles. She brings a valuable understanding of this emerging technology, particularly regarding the infrastructure needs required to support and maintain a battery electric (or other alternative fuel) fleet.

For the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Potrero Bus Yard Design, Sheena created the design criteria and concept for the conversion of a 215-trolley bus facility to a battery electric bus facility that incorporates a first-of-its-kind joint development with affordable housing and businesses. She continues to assist the City of San Francisco and SFMTA as a client representative. Sheena has also been working with Sound Transit in Washington state for the past 11 years, starting with creating bridging documents for their OMF East Link Light Rail Facility and now developing documents for their OMF South Link Light Rail Facility.

Sheena’s passion for O&M facility design is rooted in her drive to team with operators, mechanics and staff to develop great places to be and improve their working environments. She takes a holistic approach to help those using the facility daily achieve their needs, wants and desires in an upgraded or new functioning maintenance facility.

Sheena is an active participant in the industry globally through her involvement with the American Public Transportation Association, the International Association of Public Transport and the Canadian Urban Transit Association Electric Bus Training Program.
