Will Sharp, P.E., PTOE
Will brings three decades of experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering and highway design to his role as HDR’s director of highways. Will works with our staff in offices across the United States, Canada, and Australia. He has served in leadership roles for several multi-year major corridor planning and design projects, and currently leads our dual role as program manager and general engineering consultant for Iowa Department of Transportation’s $1.5 billion Council Bluffs Interstate System project. He also serves as a mentor to many of our future project leaders.
Will is most passionate about working with clients to optimize planning and design approaches, especially in ways that leverage emerging transportation technologies — what he calls “transformational” technologies.
If you’re active with the Transportation Research Board (TRB), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) or the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), it’s likely that you’ve met Will or at least seen his name. His thought leadership makes him a frequent presenter at conferences on topics ranging from performance-based design to autonomous and connected vehicles (AV/CV).
Will also serves on the board of directors for the Iowa chapter of ACEC and stays very active with TRB and AASHTO.
