Marine Species Monitoring

Marine Species Monitoring

Marine Species Monitoring

The oceans are wide and large and filled with an abundance of resources. Marine species coexist with humans on and below the ocean surface. In recent years, increasing awareness of the potential impact of man-made ocean noise on marine species populations has generated media attention and spurred scientific research. The U.S. Navy has long been a world leader in ocean-based, cutting-edge acoustical and biological research. HDR is assisting the Navy with worldwide work related to marine and biological resources monitoring and management services, including monitoring the effects of underwater sound. The work includes:

  • Aerial, shipboard and/or underwater surveys
  • Passive acoustic monitoring
  • Assessments to determine acoustic and other impacts
  • Behavioral studies
  • Tagging and biopsy darting
  • Analysis of data and technical assistance
  • Permit applications and report preparation
