Youngs Crossing Road Bridge and Road Upgrade

Flood Immunity & Safety Improvement Project

One of the largest infrastructure projects delivered by the City of Moreton Bay, the upgrade project will see the existing causeway frequently overtopped with water, upgraded to a bridge spanning North Pine River and Sideling Creek. This significantly improves the crossing’s flood immunity and safety, while the capacity of the road will also be increased to account for forecasted population growth in the surrounding suburbs.

HDR was contracted to complete the concept, preliminary and detailed design of the road realignment and bridge construction. Youngs Crossing Road will be widened to four lanes with a raised centre median, including two new signalised intersections, upgrade of the intersection with the state-controlled Dayboro Road, and the provision of on-road cycle lanes and pathways to cater for active transport.

The project is located in a hydraulically and environmentally sensitive area with nearby private properties and multiple utilities. HDR worked alongside the City of Moreton Bay to carefully consider aspects related to hydraulic modelling, structural design, and environmental constraints, and the impact of these elements on the road and bridge alignment to achieve a feasible design solution.
