Transit agencies across North America are transitioning their bus fleets to zero emissions technology, spurred by federal funding and new statutes. Understanding best practices and how to approach each step of this complex change will be critical for agencies to keep their plans on track.

Mackenzie McGuffie, an electric vehicle project manager based in our Phoenix office, shared insights recently with Metro magazine about how agencies can set up their zero emission transition plans for success. McGuffie, who has worked on electric vehicle projects in the U.S. and Canada, emphasized the importance of coordinating early with the local utility and developing both near-term and long-term plans. She also highlighted the value of research and planning rather than jumping straight into pilot projects without a strategic, larger-scale roadmap.

“Involving your public utility early and often is key to a successful ZEB deployment,” McGuffie told the magazine. “They will be playing a large role in your infrastructure and fueling, and their support can determine where you can charge, how you can charge, and even how much your project will cost upfront and through the life of the electric buses.”
