A Journey to Achieving Carbon Reductions Across the U.S. Built Environment
Building Performance Standards are driving decarbonization within the built environment. For example, Local Law 97 (LL97) is legislation specific to New York City from 2019 that requires buildings over 25,000 square feet to meet new, stringent greenhouse gas (GHG) emission limits, aiming to reduce building emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050.
In his interview, Seth Strongin, building decarbonization planning director, met with Farrah Hassan–Hardwick, marketing and communications director for building engineering services, for an insightful conversation at our New York City office.
Seth explores how building performance standards and legislation, such as LL97, contribute to reductions in carbon emissions, creating a consistent set of principles upon which building decarbonization will be based.
He also details how we collaborate with our enlightened clients, enabling them to achieve the highest return on investment for their real estate assets by implementing decarbonization strategies for the built environment, such as championing energy procurement.
