E64 – Equal is not always Equitable: Understanding Equity in Maternal and Infant Health and the Implications for Healthcare Planning
3:45pm – 4:45pm EST
Presented by Jeri Brittin (HDR), Francesqca Jimenez (HDR) and Melissa Templeton (HDR)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that Black women have a pregnancy-related mortality rate more than three times as high as white women. These stark maternal and infant health disparities indicate broader underlying social and economic inequities embedded in our culture. Presenters will share learnings from a series of focus group conversations among a diverse group of recent mothers who shared their maternal care experiences and expectations for improving the healthcare built environment, as well as insights from a published study that measured outcomes following a transition to single-family NICU rooms at a large urban safety net hospital.
