Webinar to Highlight HDR's Work on Completed CONNECT Beyond Transit Plan for Greater Charlotte, North Carolina Region

The Esri-sponsored webinar "Advancing Equity in Transportation through GIS" will feature HDR’s work using GIS to advance transportation equity, Wed., June 8, noon-1 p.m. CDT.

In the free webinar, HDR, along with Esri and Grant Thornton, will discuss how GIS can assist transportation professionals to understand and help define a more equitable distribution of transportation resources in different communities.

The webinar will feature information about the CONNECT Beyond regional transit plan, a first-of-its-kind regional mobility initiative led by the Centralina Regional Council and the Charlotte Area Transit System to create a long-term, modern, and high-quality transit network for the two-state, 12-county region.

HDR’s CONNECT Beyond Project Manager Jorge Luna and East Region GIS Coordinator Bridget Wagner will explain how spatial data was leveraged to develop both a comprehensive regional equity review and a transit propensity index.

The CONNECT Beyond project devised a cohesive vision and plan for future public transit and serves as a blueprint for how to implement a robust, interconnected network combining high-capacity transit lines, enhanced bus service and other innovative mobility solutions. Crafted alongside 17 transit agencies, who accounted for 24.4 million transit trips and more than $200 million in operating costs, the CONNECT Beyond plan produces an integrated system that provides access to jobs, education, medical facilities and services, and serves as the foundation to the region’s continued economic competitiveness and quality of life.
