HDR has named John Steinert, P.E., the new president of its resources business group, which includes power, waste and industrial markets. He’ll succeed Darryl Shoemaker, who will become the company's chief talent development officer.

For the past four years, Steinert has served as HDR’s regional operations director for the Dakotas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wyoming. In his new position, Steinert will lead the firm's energy and industrial business, comprising more than 1,400 employees.

“John brings excellent technical expertise and leadership ability alongside a commitment to his clients and colleagues,” said Eric Keen, HDR’s chairman and chief executive officer. “We look forward to John’s continued ability to lead successful teams and develop innovative solutions as the resources business group continues to transform and grow.”

Steinert has more than 32 years of industry experience as a power generation and structural engineer, project manager, power design director and regional operations director.

As an engineer and manager, Steinert built and led teams for power generation projects, quickly becoming a trusted adviser for many of HDR’s energy clients. In his most recent role, Steinert oversaw HDR’s programs across 13 states, significantly increasing the company’s presence in the region.

“I’m looking forward to helping lead our practice through exciting changes in the power, waste and industrial markets,” Steinert said. “More clients are focused on aspects like energy resiliency, a low-carbon economy, remediation and waste reduction, which touch all our markets and other HDR programs. We are uniquely positioned to tackle these problems.”

Steinert holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in civil engineering.
