With over three decades of experience, Jim leverages his knowledge to lead and support our teams in the design and development of civic and community projects throughout Western Canada. With a passion for elevating public environments through innovative, sustainable and community-focused design, Jim brings a thoughtful, stewardship-driven approach to every project.
In his current role as civic director, Jim guides and supports multidisciplinary teams in the design and delivery of civic buildings and community-defining spaces. His leadership emphasizes collaboration, environmental responsibility and design excellence, qualities that consistently strengthen project outcomes and client partnerships. Jim is committed to mentoring emerging leaders and shaping the future of civic architecture within HDR.
Jim’s portfolio spans a diverse range of community projects, from office additions to complex mixed-use developments. His work reflects a deep commitment to improving how people live, work and connect in their communities.
Actively engaged in the industry, Jim has chaired the Oak Bay Design Panel and served on the board of the Capital Region Urban Development Institute. A long-standing member of Urban Land Institute (ULI) and Urban Development Institute (UDI), he also mentors students through the University of Victoria Urban Development Club and the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business, contributing to the development of the next generation of design professionals.
