Marion County Public Health Laboratory
The Crossroads of Modern Public Health
The Marion County Public Health Lab strengthens the region’s capacity to monitor, test and respond to emerging health threats while also conducting state-mandated routine testing. Designed to expand outdated facilities and meet today’s testing demands, we leveraged our expertise to plan a modern, flexible environment for clinical, environmental and infectious‑disease diagnostics.
A Flexible, Future‑Ready Laboratory
In collaboration with Guidon, our laboratory planning team worked closely with Marion County Public Health Department leadership to create a best‑in‑class facility that anticipates both current and future testing needs. The design emphasizes flexible lab modules, efficient workflows and safe biocontainment strategies that support surges during pandemics or environmental events. Adaptable environments accommodate evolving testing methodologies and equipment.
Key design features include:
- BSL‑3 and TB laboratory suites with unidirectional workflows for safe containment
- Integrated training spaces with configurable casework to support public education and surge response
- Emphasis on daylighting and staff wellness to promote an energizing lab environment
- Robust MEP systems and emergency power to provide resiliency
Strengthening Public Health and Community Resilience
The Marion County Public Health Lab enhances the county’s ability to protect residents by providing faster, safer and more comprehensive testing capabilities. Its flexible design promotes operational readiness during events, while thoughtful planning supports the well-being of laboratorians, which is a key priority for high‑performing public health facilities.
