Data Centers Need More Green Solutions

Close up of data server cabling.

Demand for data storage across Europe is surging due to cloud computing, mobile and online use, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI). The volume of data produced each year has grown 74–fold from 2010 to 2023, reaching 120 zettabytes and is projected to hit 180 zettabytes next year. The exponential growth demands not only more data centers but also smarter, more sustainable facilities that can handle increased loads without ramping up energy consumption.

Melissa Jordan, a principal project manager at HDR, has featured in a recently published article (requires login or subscription), “Data Centers Need More Green Solutions,” in Property Week, providing her insight on how data center engineers can deliver low–carbon and high-efficiency facilities.
