Three HDR Projects Honored in Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year Awards

Three HDR projects have been honored in Interior Design Magazine’s 2023 Best of Year Awards, a program highlighting some of the most memorable and significant contributions made by designers, architects and manufacturers worldwide.

Turf Design Experience Center: Winner, Domestic Product Showroom

In a combined workplace, showroom and event space custom-designed with their product, Turf Design’s Experience Center in downtown Chicago creates a full sensory experience with varying soundscapes, lighting, texture and smell design to enhance visitor perception. Features such as cohesive color palettes, undulating ceiling patterns and soft upholstery create a seamless flow between the rooms.

“Our team is thrilled and honored to win this prestigious award for the Turf Experience Center,” shares Elizabeth Von Lehe, design director for specialty interiors. “This project was a labor of love that pushed our creativity to new places with a truly amazing client. We’re looking forward to continued collaborations with Turf in 2024.”

BMS Lakeside Commons: Honoree, Commercial Cafeteria

The design inspiration at Bristol Myers Squibb’s new Lakeside Commons comes from the nearby lake, with a warm material palette and open-concept design establishing flow and ease. Employees are encouraged to gather and collaborate at various meeting spots, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows that offer natural light and views of nature.

Kiewit Luminarium: Honoree, Entertainment

The Kiewit Luminarium, a combined museum and workshop in Omaha, Nebraska, invites people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with interactive displays and exhibits at the intersection of science, art and human perception. The thoughtful yet restrained design approach establishes an un-precious interior that enables that building to function as an exhibit itself.

In December, several HDR interior designers from across the practice attended both the Interior Design Hall of Fame gala and the Best of Year Award Celebration.

“These events are always wonderful to be a part of and an opportunity to celebrate the great work of our peers in the industry,” shares Lois Wellwood, global interior design director. “This year, it was meaningful to be together with colleagues from across the country to celebrate the HDR projects receiving recognition.”
