Hilton London Metropole

Hilton London Metropole is a popular destination hotel located on the vibrant Edgware Road, London, U.K., a stone’s throw from Paddington Station and London’s bustling West End. This is the largest Hilton outside of the U.S. and one of Europe’s most expansive conferencing hotels, offering 46,000 square feet of flexible conference space, hosting up to 3,000 delegates. The area is steeped in a rich history, once acting as a key route for goods to be transported into the city, and now a convenient location for tourists and business travelers landing at Heathrow Airport to use as their base, whilst enjoying the city’s culture and diversity.

Connecting design with practicality, we helped to breathe new life into this refurbishment project by implementing a comprehensive Building Services Strategy. This comprised, mechanical ventilation, heating and cooling systems, electrical infrastructure, main cabling, lighting, domestic water, drainage fire alarm and sprinkler systems, and the Building Management Systems rollout. Our refresh of 800 of the 1,000-plus bedrooms, two of the hotel’s conference centers, as well as all public areas has brought the facilities up to the standard expected by contemporary guests and contributed to future proofing the building.

The interior design is inspired by London’s rich history, and is elegantly experienced in the lobby, bars, restaurants, meeting rooms, gym facilities and the West Wing entrance of the building.

Hilton London Metropole has been recently recognized as Europe's Leading Conference Hotel 2023 in the annual World Travel Awards; a program that acknowledges excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.

Engineering Excellence in the Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is an area exclusive to Hilton Honors members and our team worked closely with the architects to deliver an elegant space, to an exacting specification. Fan coil heating and cooling were discretely mounted behind architectural finishes such as TV joinery and within the walls due to a low ceiling height. To ensure privacy while allowing in natural light, glazing has been cleverly masked while Barrisol ceiling panels have been introduced to the existing glazed roof, creating a sophisticated yet comfortable space for guests to work in or meet with clients.

Bedrooms Enhanced by BMS

A key part of our work on the bedrooms was the installation of a new Building Management System to enhance the guest experience. New, more efficient, fan coils and room temperature controls allow guests the freedom to control the comfort and ambience of their room while at the same time contributing to overall room energy efficiency. We ensured the technology implemented provides an option for the system to be controlled via reception in the future, and therefore between occupancy room environments can be set ahead of check-in based on guest preferences.

Further energy efficiency improvements were made through replacing the building facades and windows to improve room insulation. As part of the creation of the new Presidential Suites — spacious and luxurious home-from-home style private guest spaces — we undertook surveys, to assess the feasibility of connecting new building services to existing risers. This approach introduced the flexibility to present the space as an entire suite, yet also as separate rooms if required.

Destination Dining

Tyburn Kitchen and Sports Bar, named after the stone found in the East Wing entrance to the hotel, was created through the removal of a staff room from the level above, which allowed for a double height ceiling to be created giving a feeling of space that references its design inspiration from Covent Garden. Fan coils were installed in the walls and discretely hidden within banquette seating. Whilst tempted by delicious delights from the restaurant menu, guests can recharge their devices with an abundance of power points installed throughout the space creating a destination designed to meet, eat and work.

Back-of-house we modernized and refitted all the kitchens, within the hotel, improving the equipment and upgrading the ventilation while ensuring the hotel maintained its existing food and beverage offering throughout the entire refurbishment program.

In the Central Market Café we extended the sprinklers to the same level of the foliage hanging from the ceiling in order to ensure fire and safety standards were met while the desired aesthetic, inspired by Borough Market, was achieved. We also delivered standard Building Engineering Services within this space as well as in the Whisky Bar.

Energy Efficient Spaces For a Sustainable Stay

The refurbishment has been undertaken with sustainability and energy efficiency at the core of the engineering design. Our work will ensure that the hotel operates more efficiently, while empowering guests with greater freedom to control and enjoy their environment for the entirety of their stay at Hilton London Metropole.
